A new smartphone-based VR headset is just around the corner, offering an alternative to competing VR headsets like the Google Cardboard. Mainstream, high-end VR headsets such as the Rift and HTC Vive are getting a lot of attention nowadays, but good yet cheaper alternatives are also available in the likes of Cardboard and Samsung Gear VR. NextCore Corporation, a South Korea-based tech company, is tapping into the potential of the VR world with the introduction of Noon VR – a competitive VR headset with an affordable price tag.

Noon VR partners with Koom VR, a VR distribution service, which lets its users to view and share personal VR content with others. A free-to-download Noon VR companion app can be downloaded on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, offering over 1,000 available VR content. The app can be controlled in a number of ways including head movements, finger tap gestures, and eye gaze tracking, offering a range of flexibility for its users to customize their own VR experience for themselves.

Noon VR was designed with the latest smartphones in mind. It is certified to work with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, as well as any Android smartphone with screen sizes measuring from 4.7 inches to 5.5 inches. Huge Android phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will be right at home on the Noon VR.

Some other notable features of the Noon VR headset include ergonomic air vents to prevent fog buildup on its lenses, a velcro strap that goes around and above the user’s head for stability, and a wide-angle field of view (FOV), measuring at 95 degrees. At this FOV value, Noon VR will be able to provide a clear, immersive, and eye-strain-free VR viewing experience. For added dust protection while in use or in storage, a plastic cover also goes with the headset.

Noon VR is now available for purchase online on Amazon, retailing for just US$89. With the low price, Noon VR is targeting the low-end consumer chunk of the VR market, while also giving a neat VR experience rivaling other similar VR headsets around.
