The Indelicates

In the coming generation, we already expect a lot of changes in technology especially with the growing use of virtual reality in everyday life. This includes the world of music: promoting and releasing new songs through virtual reality seems like the new thing to do.

Joining the bandwagon of bands releasing their music through the virtual reality world is the rock band The Indelicates. They have announced that they will be launching their new single “The Generation That Nobody Explains” through Oculus Rift. It is obvious that virtual reality has nearly unlimited potential when used with reference to any creative field, and music is not outsider. To take advantage of this new technology while it is still all the rage seems like a pretty smart move on the part of the band.

Previously, Oculus Rift’s virtual reality headset has been used to put fans up on stage with their favorite bands, pay tribute to acts of historic significance, play all sorts of applications, video games, and engines. The Indelicates – an English indie rock band – have decided to strike while the iron is hot and bag the novel idea of using virtual reality to launch their new single; before the practice goes mainstream.

For those lucky fans that possess the Oculus Rift headset for virtual reality, this is really exciting news. Basically, the virtual reality music video will give the listeners a chance to experience a completely immersive environment while listening to the song. Going one step further, the developers have announced that players while looking around the virtual musical world will also be able to interact with a few objects. Three scenes have been developed for this pop single, with all three having different control patterns. Listeners will find themselves in these three varying situations alternately throughout the song. The video can be controlled using Xbox 360’s gamepad and is also compatible with the second development kit by Oculus Rift (DK2).

In the song’s description, the band guitarist and developer Simon Indelicate has said “The idea is to release downloadable music files bundled with VR environments within which the music is designed to be listened to – recapturing some of the magic of the HMV listening booth or the bedroom record player and bringing music back out from the background – while adding emotional weight with short narrative experiences that mesh with and enhance the songs. Something like that anyway – like everyone, I’m still trying to figure this stuff out.”

The Generation That Nobody Explains is available for download on the Oculus Share website and on the band’s official website as well. Virtual Reality Times will keep checking back with new updates.
