Vyuu

Virtual reality is developing in massive leaps and bounds with every single passing day. More and more apps and engines are being churned out to entice customers to a whole new world of imagery and creation.

One of these new apps is a 360 degree image and video sharing platform, called “Vyuu”. It has been developed by The Immex Company and is being launched as a private beta program. The 360 degree media platform will be compatible with Oculus Rift’s virtual reality headset. Vyuu is not the first of its kind, surprisingly; a few weeks ago, a Kickstarter “crowd-funding campaign” was put in motion for “Vcemo”, a recently launched website which hoped to offer service like YouTube for 360 degrees video and imaging viewable on virtual reality and compatible with head mounted displays. Both these media sharing platforms are in competition with one another and it doesn’t look like there is one clear leader at the moment.

The main goal that developers of Vyuu are aiming towards right now is making it the platform to beat when it comes to sharing immersive media experiences, like a YouTube for virtual reality (so to speak). The images and videos displayed in 360 degrees will be easily available for Oculus Rift users. One edge that Vyuu seems to have over Vcemo is that it already has content contributors who are famous in their own right. Some of the contributing companies are Airpano, Aaron Priest and Visualise. Besides these, The Immex Company has claimed to be working with the “Boiler Room” and Red Bull on other related future projects, the details of which have yet to be released to the media.

An Alpha version of the media sharing platform was launched recently at the Web Summit 2014, which took place in Dublin, Ireland. The developers of Vyuu saw an opportunity and took the chance to arrange a meeting with the CEO of Oculus Rift, Brendan Iribe. After this meeting, the number of people willing to test the Beta version of the app has grown to almost 5000! The official website for Vyuu has arranged for interested customers to sign up for participating in the Beta testing. This testing phase is scheduled to start somewhere in mid December, later this year. The Immex Company has not yet talked about when the full version of the sharing platform will be released. Virtual Reality Times will follow the progress of Vyuu and report back with any and all further updates about it.
